Levante Custom - Built to Order.

The Levante Custom is our newest style of conversion and is built, as the name suggests, in a Ford Transit Custom. We are and will always be VW through and through having sold them for 30 years, but, to offer more versatility, if the price point is the biggest consideration for a customer, we can now offer our quality conversions in a different, lower price, vehicle. The main bulk of the cost of any van conversion is the vehicle itself, therefore offering a different brand to keep the cost down just makes sense!

The Conversion

The Levante Custom can be built like the Levante Pro or the Levante Six- either with 2 back seatbelted seats or 3. The interior width of the Transit Customer is wider than the Transporter so can accommodate a slightly wider bed in either style of conversion without compromising on storage.

Like in our other conversions, although the Custom is exceptionally versatile and practical, we have not compromised on style. Clean lines and quality materials are used throughout which give a beautiful modern look to the finished conversion. We give every customer the opportunity to customise their campervan at no extra charge. We are not a factory bulk making vans, we work with each customer individually to style their campervan according to their taste and personality. You can choose the colour of the units, worktops, flooring, curtains and upholstery to style out your campervan. We have a range of colours and finishes to choose from and have some photos of excellent examples chosen by previous customers if you want some inspiration.

When camping, one of the most important aspects to consider is the sleeping arrangements, and particular attention has been paid to this in all of our conversions. In the Levante Custom the 2 seat back seat is a super comfortable 48”/122cm wide, 4”/10cm thick rock n’ roll bed which when upright in the seating position can sit 2 seat belted passengers (there are 5 seat belted seats in in this conversion in total). Alternatively, we can also fit a 52”/132cm wide bed which eats into the storage slightly and only has 1 gas burner but has 3 seat belted seats (see layout plans below). The roof of the Levante Custom is elevating to reveal another sleeping space with bed and comfy mattress/topper. Not that it needs it, but if you are camping on your own or as a couple, the mattress in the elevating roof fits perfectly onto the rock n’ roll bed as a topper making it extra luxurious!

There are pros and cons when considering whether to go for a Transit Custom over a VW Transporter…

PROS

  • The price! The cost of buying the Transit Custom is usually a few thousand pounds less in a like for like age, mileage and spec van to a VW Transporter. The cost of our conversion remains the same. The saving is in buying the vehicle itself.

  • The width of the Transit Custom (without handles or mirrors) is 1986mm vs 1904mm on a VW T6 Transporter or including the mirrors 2272mm in a Transit Custom vs 2297mm in a VW T6. This means the overall width of the vehicle when driving is very slightly narrower in a Transit Custom but the internal width of the vehicle is bigger by 8.2cm. Basically the VW’s mirrors sick out like on a car whereas the Transit’s are more compact.

Importantly this additional internal space means that we have managed to combine the unit depth of our Levante Pro but with a bigger bed.

  • The conversion is the same! The quality of our conversion is not any different in the Levante Custom, its just the cost of the base vehicle itself that is lower.

CONS

  • It’s not a VW! VWs traditionally hold their value, they are a household name and a quality vehicle built to last. Ford has managed to upgrade and be more competitive against the Transporter in the Transit Custom compared to their original Transit. This upgrade has produced a much better vehicle but just isn’t as well known yet!

  • The cab area isn’t quite as nice as the Transporter. This might just be a personal preference, but we notice the slight difference to the hardware and fittings in the vehicle.

  • Wet cambelt- the Ford Transit custom has a wet cambelt which some people are wary of due to its higher cost of replacing than the VW. However this is negated as if the cambelt is due to be replaced we will do this included in the cost as well as the service and MOT before you collect it! In actual fact, although the cost of replacing the wet belt is higher, this has to be done less frequently then the VW’S dry belt so over time the cost is pretty much the same.

All of our campers now come with a new MOT, oil and filter service, cambelt (VW only), tensioner and water pump replacement (if needed) plus a 6 month Autoguard warranty as standard so you can buy with confidence.

You can then choose to extend your warranty should you wish for extra peace of mind.
